2010 Quarterback Rankings
Here is the updated ranking of 39 quarterbacks available in the April 2010 draft. Overall this has been a disappointing class thus far. Everything from injury to poor play on the field leaves a lot of questions unanswered as we move towards the combine. (updated: 2/4/2010)
RankRndNameAnalysis
11stSam Bradford
Oklahoma
Cognizant passer with the physical and mental skills necessary to be a starter on the NFL level. Patient, instinctive and very accurate. Good arm and can throw the long ball. Needs to learn to play in a pro-style offense but can lead a franchise at the next level. Shoulder injuries from '09 will be costly but still expected to enter the draft.
21stJimmy Clausen
Notre Dame
An enigma at the quarterback position. Offers great physical skills and at times shows the "wow" factor. Then all too often Clausen leaves you shaking your head and wondering what he was thinking. Best case scenario is he returns to school, improves his game and enters the 2011 draft as an early pick.
33rdTony Pike
Cincinnati
Poised, patient passer with a solid arm. Displays a nice sense of knowing where his receivers are on the field, throws an effective deep ball or zips the outs. Moving up draft boards but the recent injury will be a big red flag. Still plenty of debate as to whether of not he's a starter in the NFL.
43rdTim Tebow
Florida
Smart, tough signal caller always in control of the situation. Has great pocket awareness and a true leader on the field. Possesses all the physical and mental skills to lead a franchise but needs a complete overhaul on his throwing mechanics.
54thJarrett Brown
West Virginia
Large, strong armed passer that displayed a lot of skill in '09, his first season as a fulltime starter. Athletic, can wing the ball downfield or pick up yardage with his legs. Good developmental prospect.
64thColt McCoy
Texas
Smart and tough passer with great intangibles as well as character. Resilient, stays with the action and always makes proper decisions. Shows great awareness and a feel for the game but more of a dink and dunk passer who'll struggle in the vertical game.
74thJevan Snead
Mississippi
Strong armed signal caller with an outstanding feel for the position as well as pocket presence. Can make all the throws, uses all his targets and very accurate. Zips the outs, challenges the vertical game and drives deep passes. Takes a few chances on occasion and will put the ball into coverage but offers a great amount of potential. In the midst of a very disappointing junior season and better off returning to Mississippi for his senior campaign.
85-6Mike Kafka
Northwestern
Accurate, timing passer who lacks the big league arm.
96thJohn Skelton
Fordham
Physically impressive small-school quarterback whose size and arm strength compare to Joe Flacco. Does not possess Flacco's leadership nor quarterback smarts but offers a great upside. Needs to get into a post season All Star game then play lights out.
107thDan Lefevour
Central Michigan
Overrated signal caller with marginal throwing mechanics and intangibles. Passes with an inconsistent motion, does not throw tight spirals and usually has receivers waiting on the ball. Sensational athlete but needs a lot of work on his throwing mechanics.
117-FAThaddeus Lewis
Duke
Strong-armed passer also effective carrying the ball. Quickly releases the ball, throws darts and powers passes down the field. Lacks the great size yet has all the makings of a good signal caller for a wildcat offense.
12FALevi Brown
Troy State
Solid college signal caller with a good head for the game yet not enough arm strength for the next level.
13FADaryll Clark
Penn State
Smart, heady signal caller who makes proper decisions. Not a big pocket passer and lack an NFL arm.
14FAMax Hall
BYU
Accurate timing passer very effective with the underneath throws. Lacks the big arm but has terrific field sense and could be used in a west coast offense.
15FAZac Robinson
Oklahoma State
Terrific college signal caller with marginal NFL potential. Best as a timing, short range passer.
16FASean Canfield
Oregon State
17FANoah Shepard
South Dakota
Solid timing passer with enough arm strength to play at the next level. Legitimate prospect who could back up in a west coast offense.
18FAMatt Nichols
Eastern Washington
Adequate armed passer with terrific accuracy. Height of 6'1.5" will knock him off some boards.
19FABradley George
Texas State
Big, strong pocket passer with nice physical skills.
20FATodd Reesing
Kansas
Intelligent passer with great field awareness and overall sense. Lacks the deep arm yet will get looks from a timing offense.
21FAAndy Schmitt
Eastern Michigan
Accurate short/intermediate passer. Gutsy signal caller with good size yet less than desirable arm strength. Lost for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
22FACurtis Pulley
Florida A&M
College quarterback who projects to wide receiver.
23FAIsiah Williams
Illinois
Fluid athlete that's more of a threat carrying the ball rather than throwing it. Sells the ball fakes, confuses the defense and displays elusiveness avoiding defenders. Shows good velocity on passes but his accuracy is marginal as receivers are constantly reaching backwards or vertically to make the reception.
24FAMatt Grothe
South Florida
Great college quarterback with a tremendous feel for the game and intangibles for the position. Lacks size and arm strength. Could be a good fit for a wildcat offense, but the recent knee injury could leave him on the outside looking in next April.
25FATim Hiller
Western Michigan
Highly rated passer with a mediocre arm. Cannot drive deep passes, under throws receivers and does not put zip on the ball. All too often puts the ball into coverage.
26FARyan Perrilloux
Jacksonville State
27FARiley Skinner
Wake Forest
Smart timing passer with terrific mental intangibles yet marginal physical skills for the NFL.
28FADominic Randolph
Holy Cross
Athletic, west coast quarterback with potential in wildcat formations.
29FAEric Ward
Richmond
30FAHarrison Beck
North Alabama
Bit of a sleeper. Played well at NCSU two seasons ago before being relegated to the bench. Has a decent arm and likely a fee agent who could surprise in camp.
31FARusty Smith
Florida Atlantic
Heady passer with a good feel for the game yet a quarterback who does not possess an NFL arm.
32FAScott Riddle
Elon
33FAJameel Sewell
Virginia
34FATrevor Harris
Edinboro
35FATyler Sheehan
Bowling Green
Poised passer with a good command of the offense. Possesses solid intangibles, nice size yet just an average arm.
36FAChris Turner
Maryland
Smart, accurate quarterback with a nice feel for the position. Displays great pocket awareness, buys time for wide outs and finds the open target. Lacks an NFL arm, which will limit him.
37FARush Archer
William & Mary
38FAAndrew Krewatch
Indiana-Pa.
39FAPat Grace
Northern Iowa
